Industry veterans Shanko and Murphy join JK Moving to continue commitment to excellence during period of high growth

Executives focus on boom in residential and new commercial lines

STERLING, Va. (October 26, 2021)–JK Moving Services, the nation’s largest independently owned and operated moving company, has hired industry veterans Davy Shanko, Director of Operations, Residential, and Mike Murphy, Director, Client Experience, Commercial, to ensure JK customers continue to have a great move experience during this period of tremendous growth and expansion into new lines of business. The new leaders’ industry knowledge and expertise will help strengthen the company’s ability to offer an exceptional product while upholding the company’s values of care and respect.

“We continue to grow rapidly due to multiple factors, including the ‘great migration’ spurred by the pandemic, change in work culture, and low interest rates,” explained David Cox, executive vice president, Residential. “Our commitment to providing customers with the best moving experience means that we have to continue adding bench strength to meet demand. Davy’s strong industry knowledge and focus on customers will help our operations keep up with demand and client expectations.”

In this role, Shanko will help refine and evolve the company’s residential move operations in light of the company’s growth to ensure a smooth moving experience for JK’ clients. He joined JK from Suddath Relocation Systems where he served most recently as general manager of the company’s northern California office.  Prior to Suddath, he worked in operations at Graebel Van Lines for nearly 12 years. He has an economics degree from University of Washington.

“Mike is joining the commercial team as we increase our expertise and offerings, including expanding more into data centers and labs. With his commercial moving background, Mike will be responsible for ensuring an outstanding client experience, guiding our corporate customers through seamless moves and helping bolster our commercial work,” explained Jon Theiss, vice president and general manager, Commercial Services.

In addition to traditional office moves, JK has made investments into increasing its data center and lab moving platforms, which are part a turnkey experience offered by JK that include office furniture installations and other technology relocation services. Murphy will help manage the client experience for JK’s broadening commercial base. Murphy joined JK from Able Moving and Storage where he served as vice president of Commercial. Prior to Able, he was with Office Movers for many years. He is also a Marine Corps veteran.

JK, along with its sister company CapRelo, employs nearly 1,100 people—a majority of which live in the Washington, DC metropolitan region. The company has won numerous awards, including being recognized by the Washington Business Journal as a Best Place to Work and Top Corporate Philanthropist. Committed to attracting the best employees, JK offers a formal Wellness Program; competitive compensation; a generous safe harbor 401(k) and company-paid profit-sharing program; tuition reimbursement; paid time off; an Employee Assistance Program; comprehensive medical, dental vision, and ancillary benefit coverages; bonus incentives; and employee volunteer opportunities—including the JK Community Farm, which is supported by JK Moving and grows and donates fresh produce and protein to the area’s food insecure.
