Charlie Grandfield joined JK a year ago this August, stepping in to lead sales for the Commercial team. But his competitive streak goes back much further than that. “I was drawn to sales because of the competitive nature of the job. Every day is another opportunity to win,” he says. He played sports from a young age through college, and sales gave him a way to keep that same mentality in his career.
Why JK, and what’s kept Charlie here
What brought Charlie to JK specifically was the company’s reputation and culture. Conversations with leadership convinced him that this was a growth-minded organization. One where he’d have the chance to build, shape, and grow the sales team from the inside. That’s turned out to be his favorite part of the job. “Building a team and structure for future success,” he says. “Being part of, and seeing, my team around me being successful and accomplishing their personal and professional goals.”
Measuring success through his team
That focus on developing people shows up when he talks about what he’s proudest of, too. Not a single deal or number, but the work of hiring, training, and motivating talented sales reps to reach their own goals. It’s advice he’d pass on to anyone starting out: “Do the simple things perfect, and build on those foundations. Go into every opportunity with a positive mindset and have the grit to outperform everyone around you.”
Looking ahead
Charlie’s future goal is a big one: Building a world-class sales organization at JK. “We will set a new standard for the industry,” he says.
Charlie’s life outside of work
Outside of work, Charlie and his wife Kathleen have three daughters: Addison (11), Olivia (9), and Charlotte (7). When he’s not at work, you’ll likely find him coaching his girls’ lacrosse teams, working out, traveling, or watching Tottenham Hotspur take the pitch.
From the sports field to the sales floor, Charlie Grandfield’s competitive drive and belief in building people up are clearly the same wherever he goes – and it’s exactly what he’s bringing to JK’s Commercial sales team.
