Liz Marrufo is many things: a triathlete, a published author, a stand-up comedian (yes, really), and JK’s Digital Marketing Manager. She’s been with the team for about three years, and in that time she’s brought a rare combination of creative instinct, data fluency, and genuine passion for storytelling to everything she touches.
How Liz got here
Liz didn’t follow a straight line into digital marketing. And she’ll be the first to tell you that’s been a good thing.
She started her career in public relations, working across industries as different as the music world and NGOs. It was varied, fast-moving, and taught her a lot early on. Over time, she shifted into freelance work and found her footing in digital marketing. “That’s really how I found my lane,” she says. “And here I am now at JK, still evolving and learning every day.”
Why JK?
What drew Liz to JK was the culture, specifically, the sense that it was a place where she could both grow and contribute in a meaningful way. Her favorite part since joining? The people. “Working with people who are supportive, driven, and genuinely care about doing great work” is what keeps her energized.
Starting over, and what it taught her
One of Liz’s most defining experiences happened entirely outside the office. She immigrated from Mexico City to the US, leaving behind everything familiar (her language, her city, her community), and built a new life from scratch.
“We literally started from zero: building a home, figuring out day-to-day life, making new friends, and communicating in a language that wasn’t my first,” she says. “It was a huge shift, but also incredibly shaping.” It made her more adaptable, more resilient, and more open to change. And she brings those qualities to her work every day.
The book Liz created
Among the things Liz is most proud of is a deeply personal project: a book called El Diario de la Familia. Designed as a family journal where parents can document and preserve memories together, it grew from a simple idea – that the everyday moments that feel small in real time become incredibly meaningful over time. The book was recognized as an emerging idea by Forbes Mexico, a milestone that made the project feel even more real.
Running, racing, and the finish line feeling
Outside of work, Liz is a triathlete with a particular love for running. She wasn’t an athletic person growing up, so endurance sports are something she discovered and grew into later in life. And that makes every race feel like its own milestone.
“I tend to get emotional at the finish line,” she says with a laugh. “It’s just this mix of effort, discipline, and gratitude for the journey.” Liz has a couple of exciting items on her bucket list: completing the Six World Marathon Majors and tackling The Speed Project (a relay race from Los Angeles to Las Vegas). “It’s intense, but that’s exactly the kind of challenge that excites me.”
Her husband shares the obsession. A four-time Ironman, he keeps things fun, and, in her words, “a little competitive at home, in the best way.”
A few things you might not know about Liz Marrufo

Liz speaks Italian. In college, she did stand-up comedy in Spanish (“very brave, slightly chaotic, but such a fun memory”). She had a very real “I want to be famous” phase as a kid. She was an actress for a while and has always been drawn to performing and storytelling.
She’s also, proudly, an emotional person. “I cry a lot, at finish lines, at milestones, at moments that feel meaningful. No matter how big or small, it always hits me.”
And then there’s Ruffo, her sheepadoodle, her sidekick, and apparently a social media star in his own right! You can follow his adventures at @ruffothesheepadoodle.
Her advice for anyone starting out
Liz’s advice is simple: “Stay curious and don’t be afraid to ask questions. This field is always evolving, so being adaptable and open to learning is key. Also, trust your perspective. Fresh ideas are valuable, even early in your career.”
The song that follows her everywhere
Music has always been a through line in Liz’s life. She connects memories and emotions to songs in a way that makes her, in her own words, “kind of like a walking music box.” The Backstreet Boys have been with her through it all, and “The One” is her song.
There’s something fitting about a person who has moved across borders, crossed finish lines, and built community from scratch working for a company whose entire purpose is helping people through life’s biggest transitions. Liz Marrufo understands, personally and professionally, that a move is never just about logistics. It’s about starting a new chapter. And telling that story well? That’s exactly what she does every day at JK.
