Real-life stories about moving, downsizing, and senior living – back at our warehouse

Last week, we welcomed our community back to the warehouse for our annual Real-Life Stories about Moving & Downsizing for Seniors event, hosted with our partners at the Positive Aging Sourcebook, the Northern Virginia Senior Resource Network (NVSRN), and the Loudoun Senior Interest Network (LSIN).

Over 75 attendees – senior living professionals, families, and resource experts – joined us for a candid, practical conversation about transitions: What actually happens, where stress shows up, and how to make the process easier on everyone involved.

What made the day special

  • Senior downsizing event - panelistsA people-first conversation: The moderated discussion focused on real experiences from those who have downsized or helped a loved one do it, including what worked, what didn’t, and the small decisions that make a big difference.
  • A look behind the scenes: Guests toured our training house inside the warehouse to see how we prepare teams for complex moves, our hands-on methods, protection techniques, and the extra steps that matter in senior moves.
  • Context from leadership: JK President David Cox opened the event with remarks about how our teams support seniors and their families with care and professionalism.
  • Time with local experts: Before and after the discussion, attendees connected with senior living communities, downsizing specialists, and moving professionals to get specific questions answered.

A collaborative effort for positive aging

This program continues to be a true partnership. Positive Aging Sourcebook, founded by Steve Gurney, remains a go-to resource for families and professionals navigating housing, services, and the everyday realities of aging. Alongside NVSRN and LSIN, the event brought together the right people in the same room, so information could move from theory to action.

Looking ahead

The strong turnout and thoughtful feedback reaffirm why we do this: Practical education, shared stories, and a supportive network make tough transitions easier. We’re already exploring how to build on this momentum for next year and welcome even more voices to the conversation.

Thanks to everyone who spent the day with us. Your questions, stories, and ideas are what make this event matter.
